I HIGHLY recommend DY Salon if you are in the Astoria area… and if you’re not, I suggest you go out of your way to get there. I have been a client of David’s since 2012 & I have NEVER been disappointed! He & his staff are on point with everything. Color is his forte’! They do everything here.. cuts, color, extensions… Make an appointment with him ASAP he is worth every cent you spend! I PROMISE you will NOT be disappointed!

This is going to be a bit of a long review, so bear with me. I feel it’s very important to share my full experience because David and the team deserve every bit of praise. I’ve been going to David since around 2009, back when he was at Friends Hair Salon. I’ve followed him since and there’s a reason for that. Over the years, I’ve gone from blonde to red to brunette and back again, and David is the only stylist who has ever truly nailed every look I’ve wanted while keeping my hair healthy and vibrant. After moving to the Bronx, having two kids, and navigating how expensive life in New York has become, I stopped coloring my hair and it really took a toll. My hair became dry, brittle, and the breakage was nonstop. I was even seeing a dermatologist. I finally decided that if I’m going to lose hair anyway, I might as well lose it in a color that makes me happy. So I went back to David. He took the time to listen and adjusted everything to meet my needs. He used a gentle, low-peroxide bleach, and a toner that didn’t burn my scalp. I had to bleach my whole head, and I expected straw, but somehow, my hair came out softer than before. While I was there with my six-year-old daughter, she suddenly decided she wanted to cut her hair short. Yana gave her the most wonderful haircut, and my daughter has been over the moon ever since. She felt so special and confident walking out of the salon. This was, overall, the best salon experience I’ve had in years. David is not just a stylist—he’s an artist who truly respects his craft. The whole team made us feel welcome and taken care of. If you’re considering it, trust me, go to David. He’s worth every penny.

David, the Hair God! I’ve been seeing David for about five years now, and I know it probably sounds like the usual review, but I genuinely can’t recommend him enough. I’ve had my share of bad hair experiences in the past, but ever since I met David, my hair has always been on point. He takes your inspiration and brings it to life. David is super attentive - he really listens to what you want and offers thoughtful suggestions based on his expertise. Even after your appointment, he’s there for you. He’ll recommend the best products to keep your hair looking great and will give you helpful advice about touch-ups and maintenance. If you’re looking for someone who truly cares about your hair and your happiness, David is 100% your person.

I had an amazing experience getting my balayage by David. The balayage came out beautifully, with blended highlights that brighten my hair. The end result exceeded my expectations. I have already gotten so many compliments! I highly recommend this salon if you are looking for gorgeous balayage.

I’m not perfect but my hair is, thanks to David. From the moment I sat in David’s chair for my first big chop, I knew I had found someone special. Once he gave me the confidence to take that leap I’ve never looked back. He quickly became the first and only person I would ever trust to dye my hair. What started as a routine appointment has grown into something truly special. Not only do I find any excuse to go visit him because there’s something so uplifting about the environment he has created but our relationship has evolved so naturally over the years that now I walk into his salon without saying a word, he just knows. He understands my style, my moods, and somehow always creates a look that feels more “me” than I could have even imagined. He genuinely knows me better than I know myself. Going blonder is a difficult commitment, and anyone who’s done it knows the toll it can take on your hair. But despite the bleach and color, David has kept my hair healthy, long, and full of volume. That’s no easy task, and yet, he makes it look effortless. I wouldn’t trust anyone with my hair but I trust David with my literal life. He is not just a hairdresser or stylist, he’s an artist. I know they say unicorns aren’t real but there is something magical about his work. His love for what he does shows in every strand. I could sit here all day and rave about him, but his dedication and work speaks for itself thus, I’ve attached some photos from over the last few years to prove that thanks to him, my hair is my best feature. Even in blurry pictures, my hair is the main thing that stands out. David, thank you for always making me feel beautiful and understood.

I have been having long hair for the last 3 years and was longing for a big change. I am so so happy that I chose David and his salon! Even though I live in NJ, and it takes me an hour and change to get to him, I am so so so happy with my David’s vision and work. Absolutely, absolutely talented, amazing colorist and as a bonus salon has a great atmosphere. Both pics attached from the day of the haircut and after the glazing and trimming that we did a 5-6 weeks later. If you are looking for someone creative and help you find your style and haircut, I can’t recommend David more ❤️
